This route can be cycled in a clockwise or anti clockwise direction. This description refers to a clockwise direction starting from Main Street Dungiven.
This route is waymarked along its length with wooden waymarkers.
From the car park adjacent to Murphy's Bar, Main Street, Dungiven head west (towards Derry) for 100 metres and then turn left onto the Magheramore Road.
Continue along the Magheramore Road as it heads south west over various bridges and then climbs towards Banagher Old Church. At this point you can continue along the route or head straight to descend a mile or so into Banagher Glen. While this is a worthwhile diversion remember you have to climb the steep ascent back to the route.
From Banager Old Church follow the Carnanbane Road to meet with Banagher Road. Turn left onto Banagher Road and begin a gradual but challenging ascent. Eventually as you near the top Banagher Glen will be below you to your left and the high Sperrins begin to open up in front of you.
Auglish Stone circles are located just off the route a short distance via Rallagh Road which appears on your right approx 2 miles along Banagher Road. Well worth a look after the hard work of the ascent. Back to the route and Banagher Road continue straight to a T junction with Glenedra Road (B40). Turn right to descend the hill with views of Donegal in the distance then over Auglish Bridge and the Owenbeg River into a sweeping bend and a short climb to Fincairn crossroads.
Carefully go straight on at the crossroads past St Joseph's Church on your right and into the dip past the access to Tandragee Fort. Climbing out of the dip take Umrycam Road on your left and follow straight on over Umrycam Hill for two miles. Turn left onto the Monadore Road which meets the Altinure Road in Park village. Turn right and carefully continue along Altinure Road with the River Faughan below you to the left. After 2 miles turn left onto Clagan Road and keep going ignoring all turnoffs to come to a staggerd junction with the B74 Glenshane Road.
Cross the road heading north east along the Kilcul Road for a mile turning right at a cross roads onto Letterlogher Road for a short distance turning left onto Ballyhanedin Road. Head north along this road for 1 mile then turn right onto Altagarran Road which leads to the village of Foreglen. Look to the north from this road to get views over the A6 and the wind turbines at Altahullion.
At Foreglen turn right at the T-Junction with a shop and post office to your right past O'Brien's GAC grounds to meet the A6 Foreglen Road. Taking great care on this busy section of road turn left for 100 metres to the cross the road and continue along the Altmover Road. A gradual climb along this road for 1 1/2 miles to turn left onto Drum Road/Polly's Brae Road as you head north on NCN 93 for 2 1/2 miles to crossroads with Bovevagh Road. If you wish turn left to visit Altahullion wind farm and up close and personal with a turbine. This is a slow steady climb of about a mile to the car park. If you are happy to look at them from a distance then turn right onto Bovevagh Road and begin the descent overlooking Benbrdagh Mountain and the Roe Valley.
On your left 1 1/2 miles down the road you come to Bovevagh Church where you can stop and explore for a short while. Remount and then continue a few hundred metres down the road to turn right into Killibleught Road which after about a mile brings you to Gortnaghey. Turn left onto Gortnaghey Road for a short descent past the Church on your left and just before Gort Na Drum house the route turns right.
Drop down this short section of road to meet with a T-Junction with the Altmover Road. Turn right and continue for a mile before take a sharp left turn onto Ballyguddin Road to gradually descend in an easterly direction for a few miles to come to the junction with the Drumrane Road with a football pitch to the left. Turn right onto Drumrane Road (B192) crossing Buttermilk Bridge and onto the junction with A6. Taking great care turn left to cross the River Roe and return to the start point on Dungiven's Main Street
