About this event

If you are an Outdoor Instructor who wants to work with mountain bikes, you want to become a qualified bike guide or if you just want to improve your all round skills then the MBLA Trail Cycle Leader Award is what you need.

Ian at Rock and Ride Outdoors is the only qualified MBLA tutor in NI able to deliver the TCL training courses and assessments.

The TCL allows you to legally lead groups of up to 8 people on terrain below 600m and within 30 mins of getting help. It is designed to develop leaders to safely lead groups of beginners/intermediates. The course covers Leader Kit, Maintenance and Trailside Fixes, Teaching Bike Skills, Navigation, Leadership Techniques, Risk Assessment and Required Paperwork, Practical Leading in Off and On Road Environments.

The course takes place over 2 days (minimum 16 hours) and is split around 60/40 between practical activities on the bikes and classroom sessions although the class sessions are also very hands on.

The MBLA awards are internationally recognised and are the only awards run and administered by Cycling Ireland and Coaching Ireland. If you work with groups of mountain bikers then this is the award that your insurers would expect you to have.

If you are looking to lead in more remote environments and extreme terrain then you would need to attain your TCL before undertaking the Cycling Ireland Mountain Bike Leader Award.

The MBL is the industry standard qualification for working with advanced groups or guiding in mountainous areas throughout the World.
