You may have heard, but we take cycling pretty seriously in Northern Ireland.
Thanks to data released by Strava's end of year blog, we now have demonstrable evidence of just how much we love our bikes!
The data recorded over 31 million rides in the UK and found Ballymena and Coleraine to be in 2nd and 3rd positions respectively as the fastest cycling towns in the UK at 33.2km/h and 26.7km/h on average.
In an even more impressive feat, Northern Ireland took all 3 top positions for the 'Longest Average Ride Distance', with Ballymena claiming top spot (51km), followed by Magherafelt (50km) and then Armagh 49km.
Some other interesteing stats include:
- 9am was the most popular time for riding in the UK.
- The most commonly mentioned food and drinks were Coffee, Cake and Beer.
- The average commuting distance for cyclists was 13.1km.
