Getting Started

Want to join the craze and take up cycling? Cycling is a great way to get around whether it’s for fun, fitness or getting to work. It’s environmentally friendly, efficient, very social able and you see much more than you ever would from a car. Below are some basic things to think about if you're just getting into cycling:

Buying a Bike
First of all you need to decide which type of bike you want to buy, this will be largely dependant on what type of riding you want to do. For example, if you want to ride off road trails then a mountain bike would be the best choice, if you want to ride both on and off road choose a hybrid bike or if you want to start road cycling then most people will choose a road bike.

When buying a bike you must also consider your height as this will effect the size of bike you can ride and also how much you want to spend.

Where to Ride is here to help you find somewhere to ride your bike. The website is full of cycling routes, both on and off road and range from 1 mile to over 200 miles, so there really is something for everyone. Finding a route is easy as the search facilities allow visitors to search for routes depending on their length, location and terrain.

Cycling Events
If you want to join like minded people and have a bit of fun on your bike then you should think about participating in one of the many cycling events that take place across the country. To see a full list of events check out our events section
